I'm a Disabled Veteran , my son is a Single Dad , him and his 6 year old Daughter live with my wife & myself. My son has a back injury , no way to get a place for my Grandchild to be Raised/ Grow up so My wife & I Used Everything we had to buy a Humble Home to Age in Place & Know Where our Grandchild would Grow Up. We Bought the home a year ago with a VA loan , had to do some repairs but it was All about the Location For our Grand Daughter , my wife is Also Disabled & we are Seniors. Our Home has become a Nightmare!!! The Owner Created a Crawl Space to run AC duct Only in the Hall ( home was built in 1954 , our light fixtures) are Dripping Water, Condensation is wetting the Sheetrock Causing Mold Everywhere !!! The home is mostly Block except the hall & 2 baths. We have Original 1954 wood floors that Overnight started Buckling in front of the AC closet , we are growing Mold OVERNIGHT !!!! Had an HVAC COMPANYcome out, they said ALL DUCT WORK IS WET , Sweating and Causing Condensation ! The " FIX" would be to Incapsulate the Crawl Space , run duct work Under the home with a Dehumidifier. This ( the AC work) would cost about 5,000 & we would need to get an Estimate for Crawl Space Work , tear out All wet wood , Sheetrock ( both bathrooms & hall ) to get rid of Mold & Stop Condensation Issues . We spoke with a lady that Was buying the ( Rent To Own). But she was Constanly Scrubbing Mold , the Owner sent a Roofer out to Repair a Roof Leak , when That didn't Work , the Owner sent the Same Roofer out to do "Something" in the Attic etc.... Still Mold Everywhere so after becoming Very Ill , she and her Husband decided it was Time to Walk Away ! We had No Knowledge of this Before Buying the Home , it LOOKED REALLY NICE , we had a VA inspector , city inspector & Hired a Private inspector but.... This Issue ( and previous ) could Not be Detected . The Owner Signed the Disclosure "saying No to These Issues" that there were No Previous Issues with water , Mold etc.... We are Aware it is a Latent Defect & have Proof of emails to & from the Owner & the Couple that WERE buying it , she had Requested More than Once for the Issues to be Resolved, the Owner chose to have a Handy Man come in , paint , repair & COVER UP ALL THE ISSUES , put the House on the Market so Someone like Us would Buy it , Only to discover the Issues AFTER WE MOVED IN ! We Want to Hire an Atty but more $$$. Don't Know if the Owner has any Assets or Money to Hold him Respncible etc.... Our Options are to Fix the Issues or Walk Away & Not be able to Purchase our Grand Daughter a Safe Haven to grow up in ! We THOUGHT it would be her Safe Haven , Only to learn IT IS A DEATH TRAP! I had my right knee replaced a week ago , when it Heals , I have to have the left knee Replaced , I have 7 stents in my Heart , a Coil in my Brain due to Emergency Brain Surgery , both my Kidneys are Stented , had a triple A done , I'm on Oxygen at night , have plural Infusions from Asbetos I was on the USD FORRESTAL WHEN IT BLEW UP OFF THE COAST OF VIETNAM ETC... Time is Not on My Side ! We have a Reporter Begging to do a Story on This Issue with our Home but .... We Can't go Public until we Have our Ducks in Row , we do not want to Warn the OWNER that did Not disclose these issues , just in case we may be able to recoup Some of the Cost, IF he had Any assets , he Would have a Heads Up to transfer , Hide etc.... If we went Public Now. We ARE GOING TO ALLOW THE STORY TO GO NATIONAL VIA MEDIA BUT , not at this time . I know Long Story to say we Need an Estimate to Incapsulate our Crawl Space. as I said , we SEE Mold in the Morning that was Not there the day before ! It's Growing Fast so we Need to Fix it ASAP .
